The Great Wave

Out of stock
The Great Wave off Kanagawa is a woodblock print by the Japanese artist Hokusai. An example of ukiyo-e art, it is the first in Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, and is his most famous work.

This woodblock is one of the most recognized works of Japanese art in the world. It depicts an enormous wave threatening boats near the Japanese prefecture of Kanagawa, with Mount Fuji in the background. While sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is, as the title in Japanese indicates, actually a large okinami—literally "wave of the open sea."

One of our most versatile designs, this pocket square can be arranged to show a variety of colors, from blue to white to grey.

Shinagawa is another print from the Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series.
